Prize-giving ceremony of ‘Prothom Alo Borshoshera Boi’ held at Bangla Academy
The 16th prize-giving ceremony for Prothom Alo Borshoshera Boi was held at Bangla Academy’s Abdul Karim Shahitya Bisharod Auditorium, yesterday. Contemporary writer Shahaduzzaman won the prize in the fiction category for Mamlar Shakkhi Moyna Pakhi and Rayhan Rhyne, Associate Professor, Department of Philosophy, Jahangirnagar University, received the prize for his nonfiction work, Banglar Dorshon: Prak Uponibesh Porbo. Both the books are published by Prothoma Prokashon.
The winners received crests, certificates and prize money of BDT 1 lakh. This is the second time that Rayhan Rhyne has won this prize. Professor Emeritus Serajul Islam Chowdhury was the chairman of the judge’s panel. Professors Syed Mohammad Shahed and Bhishmadeb Chowdhury, poet Sumon Rahman and writer Shaheen Akhtar were in the judge’s panel. Sharmin Mustapha and Tahsin Reza started the event by reciting two poems of Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam. Professor Emeritus Serajul Islam Chowdhury delivered the keynote speech at the event. “Technology is threatening literature. In this age, practicing literature is important. Prothom Alo deserves praise for taking this initiative,” he shared. The winners, Shahaduzzaman and Rayhan Rhyne, also spoke at the programme. Motiur Rahman, Editor, Prothom Alo, delivered the concluding speech.
