Tagore celebrated in Mymensingh
Dance drama “Chitrangada” by Rabindranath Tagore was staged at Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU) campus on Sunday evening.
The dance-drama was directed by guest artiste Samiun Sultana, marking the 155th birth anniversary of Tagore. The performers were artistes from different departments of the university.
Artistes of Theatre and Performance Studies also staged Tagore's play “Roktakorabi” marking the occasion. Nusrat Sharmin Tania, a lecturer of the department, directed the play.
Day-long programmes were organised at JKKNIU that included a musical soiree, screening of documentary films on Tagore and a discussion.
Students of the music department of the university organised the musical soiree at Gahi Sammoyer Gaan Mancha. Ahmed Shakil Hashmi, assistant professor of the department, directed the event.
Film and Media Studies Department organised a film screening show on Tagore to round up the day's events.
Earlier, a discussion was held with eminent academic Professor Dr Hayat Mahmud as the chief guest. Professor Mohit Ul Alam, vice-chancellor of JKKNIU chaired the event.
Meanwhile, Jatiya Rabindra Sangeet Sammilon Parishad Mymensingh unit organised a programme at Baishakhi Mancha on the day, marking the birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore. The events included a cultural programme, poetry recitation and a discussion.
The musical soiree that began with Tagore song-“Hey Natun Dekha Dik Aar Bar” concluded with rendition of “Oyi Mohamanob Aashe Dik-e Dik-e”. The artistes rendered several solos and four choruses.
Earlier, a discussion was chaired by Professor Monjurul Alam of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), president of the parishad. Deputy Commissioner of Mymensingh Mustakim Billah Faruqui inaugurated the celebrations as chief guest.
