Wash painting workshop ends at DU
A nine-day wash painting workshop concluded at Lecture Theatre of the Faculty of Fine Art (FFA), University of Dhaka (DU), last weekend. Professor Nisar Hossain, Dean of FFA, DU, inaugurated the workshop on June 22.
Organised by Oriental Painting Study Group (OPSG), the facilitators of the workshop were prominent and promising Bangladeshi and Indian artists including Dr Abdus Satter, Swapan Das (India), Dr Malay Bala, Zahangir Alom, Amit Nandi and others. Around 22 students and alumni of the Department of Oriental Art of FFA, DU participated in the workshop creating beautiful art pieces on diverse themes like nature, landscape, feminine figures, birds and flowers.
The workshop included oriental wash painting technique, slide show of masterpieces, lectures on oriental paintings, aesthetics, colour mixing, drawing and composition among other things.
Art connoisseurs --Shwapna Bhowmick, Mikhail I Islam and Gitanka Debdip Datta supported the workshop. They also attended the concluding ceremony and handed over certificates to the participants.
The outcomes of the workshop are now on display in a twelve-day exhibition at Zainul Gallery, marking the Dhaka University Day (July 1) with the paintings by the Department of Drawing and Painting, DU and Yunan University, China.
Founded in 2009, OPSG has been promoting oriental art in Bangladesh through various activities like organising regular exhibitions with awards, workshops, seminars and publications.
