Exhibition of paintings by Shilpacharya concludes

A 15-day art exhibition of paintings by master artist Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin concluded in the town on November 22.

Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Sangrahashala (art gallery) organised the exhibition themed “Zainul Abedin: An Artiste and Art Work” at its hall.

The exhibition featuring the maestro's art work was the first of its kind, said sources.

Teachers and students of eminent educational institutions of the district invited to the exhibition thronged the venue in hundreds.

The educational institutions included Bangladesh Agricultural University, Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University, Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Fine Arts Institute, Bidhyamoyee Govt Girls School and Mymensingh Zila School

A total of 19 replicas of the original paintings were displayed at the exhibition.

The ever memorable art works sketched by the maestro included  subjects such as famine, rural women, snake charmers, beauty of river and nature, storm, tidal upsurge and its victims, farmers, fishermen and Freedom Fighters.

During the exhibition, a video on the life and work of the artist was also screened.

Veteran artist Jugul Kishore Taluker, one of the visitors said, he had an opportunity to meet with Shilpacharya on many occasions and his simple lifestyle and great art works influenced him like many young artists of that time.

Such exhibitions will allow the younger generations to learn about the artist and his world famous works, said Jugul Kishore.

Earlier Mukul Datta, deputy keeper of the art gallery inaugurated the exhibition.

Mohammad Abdur Rouf, principal of Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Fine Arts Institute; district cultural officer Arzu Parves; assistant director of district Shishu Academy; artiste Badal Chakraborty; and Sarwar Jahan were present at the inaugural ceremony.

Mukul Datta said they were heartened by the responsive visitors.

"We hope to organise exhibitions regularly and display paintings by master artists of the country including SM Sultan, Qayyum Chowdhury, Shahabuddin Ahmed, Quamrul Hassan, Safiuddin Ahmed, Rafiqun Nabi and Murtoza Bashir to encourage local painters, " said Mukul Datta.
