Galleri Kaya organises Bangladesh Art Trip 2019

Four Indian artists, Aditya Basak, Chandra Bhattacharjee, Atin Basak and Jayanta Naskar, were a part of the Bangladesh Art Trip 2019, from July 26 to 31. Galleri Kaya invited the artists and organised their trip to Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar and Dhaka. Renowned artist and gallerist Gautam Chakrabarty accompanied them in the trip.

The artists interacted with several Bangladeshi journalists at Galleri Kaya on July 30. “Close contacts between Bangladeshis and Indians are necessary. An artistic arrangement of this kind paves the way for engagement and interaction between different artists from both the nations,” said Aditya Basak, whose works mainly shed light on the atrocious ramifications of World War I and II.

Gautam Chakrabarty stated that the objective of the art trip was to familiarise the Indian artists with the culture and people of Bangladesh and that he looks forward to taking part in many more such trips in the future.

“Bangladeshi artists regularly go to India to participate in different art workshops. We contact them in India, but we seldom come to Bangladesh. Galleri Kaya has given us that opportunity,” said Chandra Bhattacharjee, who works on human visages and their multifarious expressions along with the language of the body.

On the other hand, Atin Basak works on the relationship between living and non-living things. Jayanta Naskar, who is a senior assistant professor at the Department of Printmaking at Rabindra Bharati University in Kolkata, loves to work on socio-political themes.
