Group exhibition ‘Strokes’ underway at Zainul Gallery
A weeklong group exhibition titled Strokes, by six artists is underway at Zainul Gallery-2, Faculty of Fine Art, University of Dhaka. The show was inaugurated on July 16. A single dot joins with other dots to form a line. This line is being further developed to strokes. Here, the ‘strokes’ symbolize the six participating artists -- Aminul Islam, Md Tanvirul Islam (Mithu), Md Iqbal Hossain, Aowlad Hossain, S M Asad and Md Zakir-us Salam as six dots, forming a bigger line for the greater good in the realm of art.
Since pre-historic times, men have expressed themselves through art. Even today, it has claimed its position of greatness, excelling from time to time.
Every line, every dot starts with a thought, channeled through brushes, pencils, pens, oils, watercolours, acrylics and charcoal. This particular idea has been introduced to create a platform, where both art and artists achieve greater heights to gain and share ideas and experiences through interactive workshop, research, art camp, exhibition, publication, digital archive and gallery shows.
Strokes is not just comprised of 6 members, it is a platform where new artists are welcomed, with no age limits. The newer painters will gain valuable lessons from the established and mature ones. Also, the senior artists will be introduced to the veterans, forming an inseparable bond amongst themselves. Both realistic and abstract works are on display at the show, which is open from 12 noon to 8 pm daily. Strokes will conclude tomorrow.
