EMK Centre is currently hosting Zubayer Zakir Khan’s first solo poetry exhibition, Inked Solace.

Zubayer is an internship coordinator and adjunct faculty member at the School of Business of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB). “My mother Nahar Farid Khan, who is a lyricist, composer and poet, is one of my greatest inspirations,” said Zubayer.

The 26 poems on display are intertwined with photographs that connect with the themes of Zubayer’s writing. Many of his works deal with motifs of incompleteness, struggles and finding the correct balance between observations and revelations of everyday life.

“One day, Zubayer came to me and requested me to read a poem he wrote. After reading it, I showed him a poem that I wrote many years ago. Interestingly, the themes of both of our poems were the same, just the languages were different,” said Nahar Farid Khan.

Arnob Chakrabarty, Founder and Managing Director at RedOrange Media and Communications, Trina Oviedo, First Secretary, Global Affairs Canada in Bangladesh, Dr Aminul Karim, Dean, School of Business, IUB, and Asif Uddin Ahmed, Acting Director of EMK Center, were present at the inauguration ceremony, which was held on Saturday.

Zubayer’s poem, Riot, was praised by the guests at the ceremony. “The poem speaks about the ups and downs of everyone’s lives. It teaches us that we should cherish the good moments in life, so that we can look back on the memories during our difficult times,” said Trina Ovieda. Zubayer is working on a book which will be published later this year. The poetry exhibition will conclude on September 11.
