Kiriti Ranjan Biswas’ ’Memoirs of a Childhood’ concludes tomorrow

Celebrated artist Kiriti Ranjan Biswas had a blissful childhood in his birthplace, Kushtia. He passionately depicts nature, the songs of soul and soil on his canvases. Kiriti’s fourth solo exhibition, Memoirs of a Childhood was inaugurated at Gallery Shilpangan by renowned architect and poet, Rabiur Husain. It will conclude tomorrow at 8 pm.

Art enthusiasts can easily interact with his soulful depiction of Bauls and Vaishnav singing around the idylls of Bengal. His paintings also portray the traditions of catching fish with palo in summer, cattle-grazing in the field, a shepherd playing the flute, riding on a buffalo, a farmer carrying harvest with a cart driven by buffalos and and other childhood memories.

Though Kiriti Ranjan Biswas is known for his portraits and realistic paintings, this time, he highlights his abstract thoughts of childhood memories, transforming them into realistic images. The 31 acrylic paintings, along with oil works, drawings and experimental works on display, truly evoke nostalgia. The works also display the picturesque sceneries of Bangladesh.

The colourful depiction of paintings, several of which are evocative of artistic movements and soothing brush-work, are not just the memoirs of childhood by the artist. Rather, the exhibition is reminiscent of the bliss of childhood memories of all of us.
