'Looking at My Country Through Stamps' held at AFD
Alliance Française de Dhaka (AFD) and Moonsez Art Academy jointly organised Daak-ticketey Dekhi Amar Desh (Looking at My Country Through Stamps), a group painting exhibition by budding child painters of Moonsez Art Academy. Held at the Galerie Zoom in Alliance Francaise de Dhaka, the exhibition is open to all till October 19. It is a resultant of a 21-day workshop conducted by artist Shadia Sharmin at the art academy. The exhibition is supported by the Philatelists' Association of Bangladesh.
The programme was inaugurated by the chief guest, Director General of Bangladesh Post Office, Sushanto Kumar Mondal. Visual Artist Dr SM Saiful Islam was present as the special guest.
Spanning from the nineteenth century to the present, the history of postage stamps is fascinating and rich. Bangladesh saw her first set of stamps during the Liberation War on July 29, 1971, that exhibited the international support for the nation. The stamps of Bangladesh since then have seen glorious days, from masterfully-drawn commemorative stamps to beautiful and historical first day covers.
The children of Moonsez Art Academy were able to experience Bangladesh in a very different yet familiar way by looking at the stamps and be inspired to construct their own versions of the stamps. Participants also received recognition for their work.
