Week-long group art exhibition ends in Mymensingh
A week-long group art exhibition of five young artists organised at Brahmashoily Art Gallery premises on the bank of Brahmaputra River concluded recently.
The exhibition themed “Jol Abeg” (Water of Emotion) showcased water colour paintings.
A total of 45 paintings by Mohammad Nazmul Hussan Rahat, Palash Datta, Md Rajon, Sajib Dey and Bisshojit Kormoker Topu were displayed at the exhibition.
Talking to The Daily Star, the artistes said, in the paintings they mainly focused on Old Brahmaputra River and the ancient sites of Mymensingh including zaminder palaces.
Brahmaputra is the life-line of Mymensingh and the river is closely linked to famous artist Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin, they said.
Sketches on natural beauty, flowers, birds and different seasons were great draws for visitors, said Mir Golam Mustafa, a senior journalist.
Artistes of Music, Fine Arts and Theatre and Performance Art Departments of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU) also performed at a cultural show organised marking the inaugural session of the exhibition.
Earlier, artiste and sculptor Prof Hamiduzzaman Khan of Dhaka University inaugurated the exhibition as chief guest.
Nagorbasi Barmon Partha, head of Fine Arts Department of JKKNIU; convener of Brahmashoily Art Gallery Md Saidul Islam, artiste Mohiuddin Chowdhury Mohim and headmaster of Krishi Biswabidhalaya High School Syed Raihan Uddin were also present at the inaugural session.
Mohammad Nazmul Hussain Rahat, convener of the exhibition delivered the welcome speech.
The speakers were of the view that through such exhibitions, visitors will learn about the art works of the younger generations and young talents will also be inspired.
The pioneer of modern art Shilpacharya became famous for his evergreen art works on Brahmaputra and it is encouraging that young artists are following his footsteps, they also said.
