New “Legend of Tarzan' images revealed

Alexander Skarsgård and Margot Robbie play Tarzan and Jane.

Warner Bros. has released a slew of new images for “The Legend of Tarzan”, the upcoming film that eschews the standard Tarzan tale for an entirely original story following Alexander Skarsgård's titular hero years after he's moved to London and assumed the title of Lord Greystoke with his wife Jane (Margot Robbie). When the nefarious Captain Leon Rom (Christoph Waltz) lures Tarzan and Jane back into the wild for his own personal gain, abducting Jane in the process, he gets a lot more than he bargained for when he finds he's unleashed the King of the Jungle.

There's something good and old-fashioned about the appeal of “The Legend of Tarzan”, and not just because it hinges on an iconic character that has endured for more than a century. It's a big-budget studio picture with extensively crafted in-house sets and cast of gorgeous, charismatic leading actors, and ultimately seems to be an all out chase movie by way of lush period sets. The production design is also a bit of an Old West meets Jungle Victorian London brew that somehow all works. All in all, it all looks like one big, fun summer blockbuster spectacle and a great change of pace from the spies, superheroes and space movies that usually dominate that landscape.

The film opens July 1 and also stars Samuel L Jackson, Djimon Hounsou, John Hurt, and Jim Broadbent.
