Uncensored with Rafi Hossain is one of The Daily Star’s flagship programmes, where stars of all arenas drop by to participate in a heart-to-heart conversation with the host, Rafi Hossain. In this exclusive edition of the series, we sat down with two legendary artistes: Suborna Mustafa, also Member of the Parliament, and Sabyasachi Chakrabarty. Upon the release of their much anticipated film Gondi, directed by Fakhrul Arefeen Khan -- the duo sat down for an exclusive interview, sharing their experiences of working with each other and more.

Rafi Hossain: Thank you both for giving us your valuable time. Could you share your experience of working in Gondi?

Suborna Mustafa: I really liked the story of this film. I had never met the director until he contacted and approached me with the story. After getting to know script, as an actor, I could not say no. Later, I came to know that Sabyasachi Chakrabarty will also be a part of this project. He is one of my favourite actors, not just because of his role in Feluda, but for several other remarkable acting stints. I have gained many great experiences while working on this film. The entire unit of Gondi was a batch of young people, whose energy and positive vibe inspired me throughout the shoot. They worked as a team, and their unity helped me and Sabyasachi to get involved with the project with ease and comfort.

Sabyasachi Chakrabarty: Even though I am a Kolkata-based actor, I have seen many Bangladeshi films. Consequently, I was familiar with the work of Fakhrul Arefeen Khan. When he approached me for this particular role, I was a little shocked as I mostly play roles of policemen, detectives or goons (laughs). Being able to play the character of a respected retired government officer was new to me. For this role, I had to be more delicate and talk in a subtle tone. However, the director was confident about me, so, I decided to take up this project.

Rafi:What was it like working with each other?

Sabyasachi Chakrabarty: She is a graceful actor, who holds a wonderful poise. As I previously mentioned, I was very concerned about the character. I was not sure if I could match up to Suborna’s elegance. However, Arefeen believed in me, and gave me the confidence to move forward with this. Now, it is up to the audience to give us feedback.

Suborna Mustafa: I was elated when I came to know that I would be sharing the screen with a renowned actor like Sabyasachi. There are many positive sides to working with an actor of his stature. You get to learn many things. Being good at our jobs, we did not have to repeat many scenes and could improvise easily. Acting is all about responding to the dialogues from the story with charm, and we tried to depict that charm on screen through our acting.

Rafi:Why should the audience go and watch ‘Gondi’?

Suborna Mustafa: I would say, for the story. The film will bring forward a different element of friendship, since it narrates the story of an older couple and how the society responds to their relationship. Then, of course, for the cast, music, and locations.

Sabyasachi Chakrabarty: The audience will be able to relate to the story, as the film tries to depict several aspects of our everyday life. The cinematography, music and locations are all top-notch. However, the biggest attraction for me is that viewers will get to see me share screen time with Suborna Mustafa!
