Hasib gears up for a busy year
Muttaque Hasib lives, breathes and eats music. Having been a part of the music industry for over a decade, the passionate musician is going through a career renaissance with all-new projects and upcoming originals. The Daily Star gets in touch with Hasib for a small chat.
Your latest project with iflix was very well-received. Tell us about it.
The project is called 'Go Explore', which is initiated by iflix. The concept is to make all-new renditions of classic Bangla songs, in order to familiarise them to a newer generation. Bappa Mazumder was in charge of arranging the renditions, and he did a wonderful job, like the maestro he is. I sang the songs Moushumi by Feedback, Bhanga Gora by Bappa da, and O Nodi Re Tui Jash Kothaye by Renaissance.
Do you think this project is a breakthrough for you as a musician?
It is definitely a landmark. However, I feel like the breakthroughs in my career came when I was a part of DRockstars (2007) and Get Set Rock (2012), where I was the runners-up. I was also a part of the band Fuad and Friends, which will always be a big achievement for me.
You've been in the music industry for a long time, and many deem you as an outstanding singer. Do you ever feel like you've underachieved, when compared to your talent?
Honestly, there's no one to blame but me. I was not as focused as I would have liked, and I was a very 'scattered' individual. I did all kinds of projects, and did not concentrate on my originals. However, that is about to change soon, God willing.
What are your plans for this year?
2019 has already proved to be a really busy year for me. My priority now is to release my band, Rong's debut album soon. I am already in the midst of a lot of session work, but originals will definitely be a priority.
