Halle Berry
In 1989, US actress Halle Berry moved to New York City to pursue her acting ambitions. During her early time there, she ran out of money and had to live briefly in a homeless shelter.
From there, she became one of the highest-paid actresses of the 2000s, becoming the first (and so far, only) actress of African-American descent to have won an Oscar for a leading role -- for “Monsters Ball” (2001).
