Chirkutt’s Sumi to represent Bangladesh at Womex 21 Portugal
Celebrated musician and Chirkutt's vocalist Sharmin Sultana Sumi is all set to represent Bangladesh at the International Music Summit of music professionals from around the world in Porto, Portugal.
This will be the first time that any Bangladeshi musician will be representing our country at such a prestigious global music platform.
Sumi expressed her excitement about being part of such a prestigious festival.
"In 2016 Chirkutt participated at South by Southwest Festival at Austin, Texas. The show's director Todd Puckhaber who is also the jury member of Womex 21 invited me to participate at the festival," mentions Sumi.
"Through this festival, I want to represent the rich Bangladeshi musical heritage and also highlight Bangladeshi band music. Not only will I be representing my band but I will also talk about how various Bangladeshi bands and musicians who are trying their best to make our country proud," added the Chirkutt vocalist.
"It will also be a great learning experience for me as I will get to see tons of music professionals and get to learn more about music. To represent Bangladesh on such a big platform is a huge achievement for me and I will be grateful if any young girl out there gets inspired by me and tries to dream big for the nation," added the singer.
The popular singer is scheduled to leave for Portugal by October 20-21.
Before that, she will be going to Geneva to discuss an international project with her friend and from there go to Lisbon and then finally arrive in Portugal for the festival.
The noted singer will also dedicate her performance to her biggest fan Rumki who is struggling with stage -4 blood cancer and needs financial assistance.
The festival will start on October 27, and end on October 31.
