‘Every song sung by him is truly special to me’
Legendary rockstar Ayub Bachchu left his fans shocked and disheartened when he passed away on October 18, 2018, at the age of 56.
To honour his third death anniversary, The Daily Star talked with his wife Ferdous Ayub Chandana, who shared her favourite songs by the rock icon.
"Each and every song sung by him is truly special to me. It's really difficult for me to make a list of favourites from his songs. However, "Shei Tumi" holds a special place for both of us as we have a lot of memories associated with the song. It's really impossible to single out one song from another," mentions Ferdous.
"However if I have to list down my 10 favourite songs then the list will include- "O Bondhu Tomay", "Shei Tumi", "Keu Sukhi Noy", "Shei Tara Vora Raate", "Duti Mon", "Ferari Ai Monta Amar", "Rim Jhim Brishti", "Ghumonto Shohore", "Eka Hoye Jaai", and "Bolini Kokhono". These songs are my favourite forever," added his wife.
Ayub Bachchu's first song was "Harano Bikeler Golpo" which was written by celebrated lyricist Shahid Mahmud Jangi. His first solo album "Rokto Golap" was released in 1986.
AB started his music career from his birthplace with the band 'Feelings' in 1978. Then in 1980, he joined 'Souls', one of the pioneers of the band movement in Bangladesh.
After leaving 'Souls', he formed his band 'LRB' in 1991 and the band's first album was released in 1992.
Ayub Bachchu's list of solo albums consists of- "Moyna" ( 1988), "Koshto" ( 1995), Shomoy ( 1998), Eka (1999), "Prem Tumi Ki" ( 2002), "Duti Mon" (2002), "Kafela" (2002). "Prem Premer Moto" (2003), Pother Gaan" (2004), "Bhatir Tane Maatir Gaane" (2006), Jibon (2006), "Sound of Silence" (2007), "Rim Jhim Brishti" ( 2008), Bolini Kokhono (2009), and "Jiboner Golpo" (2015).
Ayub Bachchu was born in Chattogram in 1962. He had recorded 28 albums, including 16 solo albums. He also composed 500 songs including famous numbers like 'Cholo Bodle Jai', 'Rupali Guitar', 'Hashte Dekho, Gaite Dekho', 'Ekhon Anek Raat', 'Ghum Bhanga Shahare', 'Darojar Opashe', 'Madhabi', 'Hawker', 'Meye', 'Tara Bhora Rate', 'Saare Tin Hath Mati' and many more, and lent his voice to playbacks for films.
