Music Festival at Jagannath University comes to a close
A two-day music festival organised by the Music Department at Jagannath University (JnU), for the third consecutive year, came to a close yesterday. Renowned Bangladeshi singers Rezwana Choudhury Bannya, Subir Nandi, Kiran Chandra Roy, Laisa Ahmed Lisa, Mohammed Shoeb, Supriya Das and Shusen Roy, and Indian artists Rajrupa Chowdhury, Swagata Mukherjee and Bittu Nittagusthi performed on the concluding day of the festival.
Professor Asit Roy from Rajshahi University presented the keynote speech at the morning seminar held on campus with Professor Mijanur Rahman, Vice-Chancellor (VC), JnU, presiding as the chair. Among other noted figures, Professor Syed Manzoorul Islam from University of Dhaka's English Department, was present as special guest at the seminar. Cultural personalities Kamal Lohani and Mita Haque were honoured for their outstanding contributions in their respective fields at the event.
The festival was inaugurated on Wednesday, by Professor Mijanur Rahman, while Anima Roy, Chairman of the Music Department, JnU, a renowned Rabindra Sangeet singer, chaired the opening ceremony. Eminent folk singer, Rathindranath Roy, Nazrul Sangeet exponents, Khairul Anam Shakil and Ferdous Ara, Rabindra Sangeet artistes, Aditi Mohsin, Indian classical vocalist, Avijit Kundu, and German artist Jiman Karspel performed on the opening day.
Rabindranath Tagore's dance drama Chitrangada was also staged by students of JnU's Music Department. The theatrical presentation was choreographed by Warda Rihab, with music composed by Anima Roy.
