'Zootopia' sets China BO record
“Zootopia” has been a wild hit with American audiences. Now it's showing its stripes overseas.
Disney's latest animated outing is scoring big in China, setting the country's new record for largest single-day gross for an animated film with $25 million on Saturday. The film is creeping up on the current record-holder for top animated release ever in China, “Kung Fu Panda 3”.
“Zootopia” is set to cross $100 million there this weekend, while “Panda” currently stands at a cumulative of $152 million after bowing in late January.
Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman star in the progressive tale of a determined bunny police officer and a fox swindler who join forces to uncover a missing animal case. The film's equal rights message has drawn audiences by the herds; “Zootopia” has topped the US box office for two consecutive weekends.
