Begum Rokeya remembered in the capital
Today marks the 138th birth and 83rd death anniversary of litterateur, educationist, social reformer, Begum Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain. She is mostly famous for playing a pioneering role in awakening of Muslim women. She established the first Muslim girl’s school in Kolkata. Rokeya also founded a Muslim Women’s Association that fought for women’s employment and education.
To observe the day, different programmes have been organised in the city. The Ministry of Children and Women Affairs organised Begum Rokeya Padak 2018 at Bangabandhu International Conference Center. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will present the prestigious Rokeya Padak 2018 to the recipients for their outstanding contributions to the society and the empowerment of women. The programme will be broadcasted live on BTV.
Konthoshilon will present a poetry production titles Mohiyoshi Rokeya at Shawkat Osman Smriti Milonayoton, Central Public Library at 7 pm. Her popular stories Oborodhbashini, Matichur, Sultanar Shopno, Chithi-Patra and Padmarag will be included in the production. Konthoshilon instructor and director Golam Sarwar has directed the production.
