After five days of film screening and several interactive sessions, Amar Bhashar Cholochitro film festival, organised by the Dhaka University Film Society (DUFS), and was supported by Bangladesh Film Archive, Jaaz Multimedia and Walton Laptop, concluded, recently.

Muhammad Hasan Mahmud, Minister of Information and Dr Muhammad Akhtaruzzaman, Vice Chancellor, DU, along with renowned filmmaker Syed Salahuddin Zaki were present at the closing ceremony as chief guests, among others.

"In the era of digitalisation and YouTube, the DUFS has successfully created an environment where people would come together to watch films, which is quite impressive. If we can create an environment where we can watch films freely, we will know what is happening around the world," said Syed Salahuddin Zaki, who is known for his film Ghuddi.

Three films, Fagun Haway, Iti, Tomari Dhaka and Alpha were nominated this year for Hiralal Sen Award, named after the first filmmaker of the subcontinent. Nasiruddin Yousuff's Alpha won the award and it was received by actor Dilruba Doyel.

Awards in two categories, for best screenplay and best cinematography, were also introduced this year, which were won by Fagun Haway and Alpha, respectively.
