Maleka Khan’s ‘Jamdani: Bangladesher Bisshonondito Oitijjo’ launched at BNM
The launching ceremony of Maleka Khan's book, Jamdani: Bangladesher Bisshonondito Oitijjo, took place at Bangladesh National Museum (BNM) recently. Malekha Khan is a noted heritage and crafts researcher and author. The event was presided over by Taslima Hossain, the Editor of Daily Ittefaq, and the Publisher of the magazine, Ananya.
K M Khalid, State Minister of Cultural Affairs, was the chief guest. The special guests were AAMS Arefin Siddique, former Vice Chancellor of University of Dhaka (DU) and Dr Rounaq Jahan, Professor of Political Science, DU. Maleka Khan introduced Abul Kasem, a senior Jamdani craftsman, to the audience. She also shed light on how he passed on the tradition of Jamdani weaving to generations for ages.
The book features photographs of different types of Jamdani sarees and important facts about the Jamdani industry.
