No Land’s Man
It is, indeed telling when a film is awarded even before it’s pre-production stages. In 2014, No Land’s Man was awarded the Script Development fund in the Motion Picture Association of America and Asia Pacific Screen Awards, while being a part of the Asian Project Market at Busan. The international film was chosen as the best project in India’s Film Bazaar the same year. However, the majority of hype surrounding the film was created this year, when internationally acclaimed actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui was set to star in it. Here is why you should be excited about the Mostofa Sarwar Farooki directorial.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s commanding presence
Today, Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s name is synonymous with intriguing projects, many of which are acclaimed worldwide. After a complete career transformation with Gangs of Wasseypur in 2012, he captured Bollywood as an intense actor, adaptable in any role given to him. With the recent success of the Netflix original, Sacred Games, watching Nawazuddin on the big screen is no less than a mercurial experience. Siddiqui is also one of the producers of the project, alongside award-winning US producer Shrihari Sathe, Farooki, Nusrat Imrose Tisha, Anjan Chowdhury, Director of Square Group, and Bongo BD.
Mostofa Sarwar Farooki’s recent track record
Arguably one of the most prolific directors that Bangladesh has ever produced, Mostofa Sarwar Farooki is no stranger to working with big names. In Doob: No Bed of Roses, he worked with Irrfan Khan, one of the most respected actors in the world. The unreleased Saturday Afternoon is also picking up acclaims from film festivals around the world. If his recent projects are anything to go by, No Land’s Man should be nothing short of a spectacle.
A compelling Bangladeshi presence
Singer-turned-actor Tahsan Khan’s inclusion in No Land’s Man, a surprising one, drew a lot of attention to the film. Tahsan, who recently completed 100 television projects, has evolved into a solid and believable actor. Nusrat Imrose Tisha, one of the most renowned names in Bangladeshi film and television, makes her debut as a producer with this film. Her recent film, Iti Tomari Dhaka, is being touted as one of the most ambitious projects in Bangladeshi film history. With two beloved Bangladeshi actors attached to the project, the expectations are high.
Megan Mitchell’s debut
Australian theatre-based actor Megan Mitchell’s debut in the film will be a high profile one, given the names involved in the project. It is definitely a bonus to have a sense of intrigue, to see how the promising actor copes up.
