Perfection in Elocution
The autumnal evening of September 17 observed the 33 year celebration of Swanon at Poet Sufia Kamal Auditorium, National Museum in the metropolis. The programme was titled Tanmay Totinir Tire.
Swanon has worked tirelessly for the past 33 years to promote and propagate the art of recitation among the younger generation.
The Chief Guest of the event was National Professor, Anisuzzaman. Renowned recitation artiste Jayanta Chattopadhyay and novelist Selina Hossain inaugurated the programme by lighting the mangaldeep (inauguration candle). The mood of the celebration was set with the dhak and dhol (traditional percussive instruments) playing on the background. The inauguration was followed by a group dance by Rachel Priyanka Perris and her group with the Tagore song Aloker ei jhorna dharay dhuiye dao.
“Speaking eloquently is an art,” said Professor Anisuzzaman, “I congratulate the artistes who have taken forward the art of recitation.”
Poet Selina Hossain commented that the next generation can be molded into a more intellectual and liberal one if they take interest in cultural activities as such.
Artistes of different ages from Swanon, along with the invited artistes performed recitation of masterpieces by Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam, Jibananda Das, Sukumar Roy, Shamsur Rahman and many other noted Bengali poets.
