Remembering Golam Samdani Quraishy
Marking the 28th death anniversary of versatile writer Prof Golam Samdani Quraishy, a discussion titled, Golam Samdani Quraishy: Somoyer Sahoshi Judhha, was held at the premises of Mymensingh Shahittya Sangshad (MSS) recently. Bikkhan, a study circle of MSS, organised the event.
The discussion was chaired by Prof Dr Anwarul Islam, former Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU). Advocate Emdadul Haque Millat, and Mohammad Rajon, Convener, Bikkhan, with poets Swadhin Chowdhury, Sajal Quraishy and were the keynote speakers. The panel mostly spoke on the life and works of Golam Samdani.
Born to Abdul Karim Quraishy and Altafunnessa on April 5, 1929 in Kendua, Netrakona, Quraishy was repellent towards imperialism and dreamt of a congenial society for humankind.
His notable works include, Shahittya O Oitijhya, Islam O America, Moha Plabon, Swargio Osru, Shasti Maya, Sindur Ek Bindu, and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib.
Quraishy was a member of Mymensingh Press Club and has been honoured with the Abul Mansur Ahmad Shahittya Purushkar, Agrani Bank Shishu Sahitya Purushkar and Independence Day Award (posthumously), for his contribution in the field of literature.
The writer passed away on October 11, 1991.
