Remembering Irrfan Khan on his first death anniversary
Today marks the first death anniversary of internationally acclaimed actor, Irrfan Khan.
Khan's illustrious career is not just marked by the number of films or genres he worked on, but also his powerful performances. Be it a comedic character, a bold fighter, a struggling barber, a romantic hero, a loving father, a confused policeman or a spellbinding storyteller, he won the hearts with each and every performance of his career.
Bangladeshi filmmaker Mostafa Sarwar Farooki directed Khan in the Bengali film, "Doob (No Bed of Roses)."
Khan's charming yet simple portrayal of many roles has immortalised him in the world of cinema. His first international recognition came with the film, "Slumdog Millionaire" in 2008, where he played the role of a police inspector, in search of the truth.
With the portrayal of Pi Patel in the film, "Life of Pi" in 2012, directed by Ang Lee, the whole world was introduced to the charm of Khan. His role as a powerful and captivating storyteller in the film was a powerful aspect of the Oscar winning film.
In the film, "Maqbool" in 2003, Khan played the titular character, torn between loyalty and love. Based on William Shakespeare's "Macbeth", the character of Maqbool was portrayed by him with the perfect combination of deception and desire.
His film, "The Namesake" in 2006, directed by legendary Mira Nair, captured the amazing bond between a father and his children. Irrfan's character, Ashok, resonated with every expatriate living across the world, all the while reflecting on inter-generational conflict.
Considered his career's most challenging role, Khan played the athlete turn rebel in "Paan Singh Tomar" in 2012. His brilliant portrayal of the lead character told the story of a rebel, in all his glorious chaos.
"The Lunchbox" which came out in 2013, featured Khan in the role of a lonely, romantic man. The captivating film focused on the need for companionship, along with a simple, powerful, and unconventional love story between two people who have never met.
With more than 100 films to his name, Khan's other memorable films include, "Piku", "Hindi Medium", "Billu", "Life in a Metro", "Talvar", "Qarib Qarib Single", "Inferno" and "Jurassic World" among others.
He will be remembered as a beloved actor across the world.
