Sporsho Foundation celebrates Sporsho Braille Prokashona’s 12th anniversary
With the motto, Manush drishtihin bolei ondho noy, manush muloto proggahin bolei ondho, (People are blind not because they are unable to see with their eyes, but because they do not have the knowledge to visualise life from within), Sporsho Foundation has been working tirelessly to provide quality education to visually impaired children with their braille books. They celebrated the 12th anniversary of Sporsho Braille Prokashona at the Liberation War Museum in Agargaon recently.
National Professor Dr Anisuzzaman, Liberation War Museum Trustee Mofidul Haque and eminent writer Muntassir Mamoon were present in the event, which started with a group performance of Aguner Poroshmoni by visually impaired children.
This year, Sporsho Braille Prokashona launched 15 new braille books. 15 children read excerpts from these books in the event. "We can read even when there is no light, then how are we drishti protibondhi? We are drishtiJoyi!" shouted the children in unison.
A short video showcasing the struggles of a young visually impaired girl was screened at the event. Sporsho invited three mothers who have visually impaired children to talk about their individual struggles with their children's education at a panel discussion.
Sporsho Braille Prokashona has been consistent in the Ekushey Boi Mela from 2011. "We are expanding our book stall to Chittagong this year and will continue to expand our activities in other districts," shared Nazia Jabeen, President of Sporsho Foundation. "Sporsho believes that the braille movement is an initiative for humanity and our efforts will ensure a brighter and inclusive society."
Ezaz Hossain and Munir Rana, respective champions and runner up of a special chess tournament for the visually impaired, were given prizes in the event.
Ahsan Habib (social work) Ashikur Rahman Amit (app development) Fahima Khatun (professional success) and Dalia Nowshin (cultural achievement) were honoured with the Drishtijoyi Shommanona for their commendable work in their respective fields.
"We all have a specific duty towards visually impaired people and we tend to neglect it. Sporsho is doing an amazing job with their publications and they have my heartfelt gratitude," expressed chief guest Dr Anisuzzaman.
The event concluded with solo cultural performances by two visually impaired children. Sporsho Foundation's stall is located near the exit gate at the Ekushey Boi Mela.
