The Seesaw Quartet’s ‘Maybe’ sets off

Comprised of tenor saxophonist Rahin Haider, guitarist Jishnu Haider, bassist Alistair Sarkar Raj and drummer Samiul Wahid, The Seesaw Quartet is an emerging instrumental ensemble that started off their journey in 2018. Siblings Rahin and Jishnu composed their own music as a duo. Eventually, they decided to extend their band to a quartet with Samiul and Raj so as to give a wider sound to their compositions and enrich the rhythmic texture of their music, which is rooted in jazz, funk and blues.

 The Seesaw Quartet released O.E.T.A., a track from their debut album, Maybe, on their official YouTube channel, yesterday. Recorded live at Samiul’s studio, the track is written and arranged by Rahin. Dewan Anamul Hasan Raju is behind the audio and video post-production of the track, while Nayem Mir Farin is behind the videography. 

“The album has seven original compositions. Jishnu and Raj have each composed two tracks, while I have composed three,” says Rahin. “Maybe, the title track, is the last tune on the track list. We felt that it captured the overall sound of the album the best. The word, ‘maybe’ also conveys that not everything in life is always black or white - there are some grey areas, which is a beautiful philosophy.”  The Seesaw Quartet will put out the rest of the tracks from Maybe on YouTube to begin with. Eventually, they will extend the album’s release to other music streaming platforms. Depending on the audience’s response, they also hope to release CDs of the album.
