“We need to uplift the band music industry” – Mir Shishir

Could you tell us about your latest work?

I am composing and producing an album, in which established and upcoming vocalists alike will lend their voices. I am very excited about the project, as it features some of the most talented artistes in the industry now. Shuvo from the DRockstars fame will be singing one of the tracks, whereas another will showcase Masha, a fabulously talented young lady. I will not disclose the rest of the lineup for now.

Describe yourself in one word.

I would say, ‘perfectionist’. When I make or play something, I have to nail it. Many musicians I work with get annoyed at me for this! (laughs)

It can be argued that people do not come to live shows as much nowadays, as a result of which, the music industry is suffering. What is your take on this?

Our industry went through different phases throughout the 90s and 2000s. In the 2000s, for example, when big names like Black, Artcell, Aurthohin and Cryptic Fate were performing, people were more than willing to pay for shows. In that respect, I feel like ‘free shows’ have damaged the industry greatly. When you pay for something, it creates a sense of value for any commodity, including music. Social media and online platforms have also contributed to the void, as the audience might prefer to listen to music online, rather than experience it up front. You see, we don’t just have to create music, but also create a memorable experience to draw audiences in, much like bands like Coldplay have been doing with their ground breaking showmanship.

Do you have a message for upcoming musicians?

Please, do not give up on your music. I believe that the musicians themselves will take the industry out of the comparatively ‘dull’ phase that we are going through. I, myself am there amongst you, trying to promote new music. We need to uplift the band music industry together.
