Tagore remembered at JKKNIU
The Music Department of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU) in Trishal upazila organised a cultural show marking the 75th death anniversary of Nobel Laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore on Wednesday evening (August 10).
The artistes rendered the most popular songs of the bard with great applause from the capacity packed Theatre Hall auditorium of JKKNIU.
The artistes of the department joined the rendition of solos and choruses. Poetry recitation that interspersed the song, made the evening more enjoyable.
Earlier, a discussion on the life and works of the poet was held.
Vice-chancellor of the university Prof Dr. Mohit Ul Alam was the chief guest.
Treasurer of the university Professor AMM Shamsur Rahman, Jatiya Rabindra Sangeet Sammilon Parishad Mymensingh's president Professor Monjurul Alam of Bangladesh Agricultural University; Ahmed Shakil Hashmi and Professor Md Jahidul Kabir of Music Department addressed the discussion, among others.
Professor Mosharrat Shobnam, the head of the Music Department presided over the session.
The Bengali Department of the university also organised a cultural programme and a discussion marking the death anniversary of the bard at the same venue on August 9.
The artistes of the department took part in the cultural programme that included rendition of Tagore songs and a poetry recitation session.
Dean of Arts Faculty Professor Md Mahbub Hossain and Professor Md Sahabuddin of Bengali Department also spoke on the occasion.
The speakers said greater appreciation of the writings of Tagore, especially his songs, will enrich our knowledge of Bengali Literature.
More tours to places gripped with the memories of Tagore will inspire the younger generation to about the bard, his work and contribution, they also said.
They urged teachers, students and artistes of the university to be dedicated to Tagore, a poet who cultivated all branches of Bengali literature. They also termed Tagore as the greatest of great poets of all times.
