'Lal Jomin' on a countrywide tour
Shunyan Repertory Theatre's applauded monologue Lal Jomin is based on the struggle of a woman during the liberation war in 1971 and it's aftermath. The play has covered districts in Bangladesh and travelled in India, UK, USA and Canada. Since the opening show in 2011, this play has been supported by the Theatre Department in Dhaka University, Quantum Method, Aranyak Natya Dal, Janata Bank, Bangladesh Biman, Group Theatre Federation, Shilpakala Academy, British Council, and many other theatre groups and organisations. Recently, this play has received a grant from the Ministry of Cultural Affairs to perform all over the country and a contribution from Bishwo Sahitto Kendro to perform for young students in schools.
The play is a one-woman show performed by Momena Chowdhury, written by noted playwright Mannan Heera and directed by Sudip Chakroborthy. Lal Jomin is a poignant tale of a 13-year-old girl in a war-torn Bangladesh, depicting the consequences of the Liberation War on the present day. In the second half of this July, the monologue will have a series of touring shows in South-eastern, central and northern parts of the country. The scheduled shows are in Feni, Comilla, Dhaka, Panchagarh and Thakurgaon on July 20, 21, 26, 28 and 29 respectively.
The director and the actor expressed gratitude to all who have supported the play throughout its journey.
The play premiered on May 19, 2011 at Natmandal in Dhaka University.
