Parvathy Baul's spell-binding show at Shilpakala
Noted Baul artiste Parvathy Baul captivated the audience with an impeccable performance in a musical soiree titled Ki Rup Dekhi Nayan Mudi at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) recently. Parvathy Baul, who was born as Mousumi Parial, belongs to Raozan district, Chattogram. She carries the lineage of two great Baul Masters – Sanatan Das Baul and Shashanko Goshai and she is the first female baul recipient of Sangeet Natak Akademi.
Liaquat Ali Lucky, the Director General of BSA, gave the welcome address. During his speech, he mentioned that baul music has been inscribed in the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. For the development of the artistes of our country,

Besides her performance, Parvathy Baul will also conduct a workshop with a group of Baul artistes for the next three days, informed Lucky. After the welcome address, the audience heard the sound of the anklets of Parvathy Baul entering the stage. She held the ektara on her right hand and she played with her left hand. The dubki (percussive instrument) was tied around her waist.
Even the anklets she wore went along well with her performance. A rare case of pin-drop silence was observed in the auditorium during the programme. In the latter half, she performed her own rendition of a Shah Abdul Karim song, Keno Piriti Baraile Bondhu. She ended the musical soiree with a number called Milon.
"Bangladesh has retained the real Baul devotion and its spirituality. Some authentic bauls are still found in this land," she said. She received a heartfelt standing ovation at the end of the programme. An uttorio (honorary scarf) was presented to her as a token of appreciation by Liaquat Ali Lucky.
