After 14 years and 180 exhibitions, Aranyak Natyadal, one of the most well-known theatre troupes in Bangladesh, held the final show of their popular production Rarang. The show was staged on July 18 in the Experimental Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.

Rarang is a Shantal word for "a call to rise." The play, written and directed by veteran artiste Mamunur Rashid, focuses on the insurgency of the Shantal community - an indigenous minority group living in the country's northern region - against the oppression of the British Regime. The play depicts the Shantal Revolt that took place in 1855 against the British Raj and the feudalism prevalent in the 19th century. The story narrates the life of the great Shantal leader Alfred Soren who died a heroic death fighting against oppression.

At the end of the show, Mamunur Rashid said, "We express our gratitude to the audience for showing their love for theatre. We shall bring Rarang back in the next opportunity we get." He also mentioned that a new production of Aranyak Natyadal will be staged soon. He thanked all the artistes associated with the play individually.

Since 2004, Rarang has traveled in many places of Bangladesh as well as abroad. Based on the researched history of the Shantals, Rarang is a brilliant exposition of historical trajectory. The group has also performed the play in different Shantal villages. Mamunur Rashid said, "The Shantal community loved our play. It is one of our greatest achievements."

Even after 14 years, Rarang managed to attract crowds. The performance of the group was heart-touching. With great expectations for another spectacle from Aranyak Natyadal, the audience bid goodbye to Rarang.
