The New Red Wedding?
Last Friday, the Super Chef participants found themselves in the boiler. When it came down to the 'tike-thakar lorai', almost all the participants produced their worst presentations till date. The judges were of course not happy, especially because this was the first week with a guest judge, executive chef of Bellagio, Gerard Wallace. The judges thus wanted the participants to really impress the guest judge but the participants faltered. Fortunately, it was not all doom and gloom. Nadim Sarker was complimented for being one of the most organised contestant on the floor by Gerard Wallace, and for his technique and his method of preparation. This was only of few compliments that the participants received. SM Shakib, on the other hand, was criticised for having an unclean and untidy station. However, despite that, Gerard acknowledged in private that watching Shakib cook was a wonder by itself. “By watching him prepare, you will never know what Shakib will make,” Gerard said. “He is all over the place but God must be with him when he is cooking for what he makes at the end,” he said.
After the disaster of last Friday, this week the participants will be expected to be on their toes from the very beginning. There will be no guest judges this week but the challenge will be no less easy. Participants will again find themselves divided into two teams and will then have to face the challenge the judges give to them. Today, expect a lot of vibrancy and beauty all around the Super Chef kitchen. A festive mood will prevail as this round's team challenge is the wedding challenge. Participants will have to prepare a full course of wedding food, enough to serve around 10 guests. The choice of menu will be entirely up to the team themselves. However, unlike when making traditional wedding food, not all utensils will be available and nor will a lot of time. The participants will have to do their best to work with whatever they are given and produce the best wedding spread they are capable of making. Division of labour is one thing that may yield high rewards this time around.
Those that fail to make it in the safe zone will find themselves back in the 'tike thakar lorai'. What will be the challenge there? It will be Ilish Polao, a popular traditional dish but that sounds easier to make than it really is. Should the illish be in the polao? Should it be cooked separately? What texture are they to look out for? With so many questions waiting to be asked, the challengers will again have to be on the top of their game. And there is further incentive; next week brings along the next guest judge. Who will it be? Stay tuned and find out. Watch ntv every Friday and Sunday night at 9:00 pm.
