Acid thrown at college girl

A female college student was burned with acid allegedly by a male classmate and his cohorts in Torgaoh Ferryghat area of Gazipur’s Kapasia upazila yesterday.

The victim’s father immediately contacted Kapasia Police Station, naming one Sagor as the attacker.

The father alleged that the attack took place because he had helped police arrest one of Sagor’s friends, Shaon, who was accused in a murder case.

“Since then, Sagor has been furious with me and my family. That is why, he and his friends threw acid on my daughter,” he claimed.

The girl was initially admitted to Kapasia Upazila Health Complex, where doctors said one fifth of her body had sustained burn injuries.

Dr Salah Uddin, of Kapasia Upazila Health Complex emergency unit, said she was later shifted to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College for better treatment.

Kapasia Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Abu Bakar Siddique said Sagor had already been arrested and police were investigating the incident.

No case has been filed in this regard as of filing of this report.
