AL leader ‘assaults’ RHD engineer

The executive engineer of the Roads and Highways Department in Kushtia has allegedly been roughed up by a local Awami League leader.

The incident happened around 4:30pm yesterday when engineer Ziaul Haider tried to stop Altaf Hossain, a vice-president of Kushtia AL, from constructing an establishment beside Kushtia-Rajshahi highway in Mazampur area of Kushtia town.

Ziaul told The Daily Star that he along with four other RHD employees rushed to the area on information that the AL leader had been building a structure on the highway land.

Altaf refuted the allegation and claimed that he was the owner of the land and that he had the documents. The AL leader, however, could not show this correspondent the papers.
