DON'T CHARGE EXORBITANT PRICES: BANGABANDHU
Prime Minister Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman says the government is determined to take stern action against forces responsible for aggravating the miseries of the people. In a stern note of warning against profiteers, hoarders, black marketeers and spurious traders the prime minister says if they don't mend their ways, the government would take stringent measures against them. He asks the traders not to charge exorbitant prices from the public, who are victims of oppression and atrocities during the occupation period.
BANGABANDHU VISITS POET NAZRUL
Bangabandhu pays an unscheduled visit to rebel poet Kazi Nazrul Islam today and spends about half an hour at his government-allotted Dhanmondi residence. He enquires about the welfare of the ailing poet and also his needs from his daughter-in-law, who looks after him. Bangabandhu is informed that the general condition of the poet has seen appreciable improvement since his arrival in Dhaka last May from Calcutta at the invitation of the Bangladesh prime minster. He is further informed that the poet, who previously could not move without aid, can even walk down to the ground floor from the first floor of his residence nowadays.
DR MALIK'S TRIAL BEGINS TODAY
The trial of Dr AM Malik, governor of the then East Pakistan, will begin tomorrow before Special Tribunal-1 in Dhaka headed by Session Judge Abdul Hannan Chowdhury. The former governor was first produced before the tribunal on October 6 when he made a prayer for adjournment of the hearing in his case on the ground that he required some time to prepare his defence. Dr Malik will face trial on charges of collaboration with the military regime of Pakistan and waging war against the Liberation Movement of Bangladesh.
