FOOD PRODUCTION MUST GO UP
Prime Minister Sheikh Mujibur Rahman tells a high-level conference today in Natore that all ways and means must be devised so that Bangladesh can become self-sufficient in food as soon as possible. The latest position regarding the supply of agricultural inputs and food and law and order situation are discussed at the conference presided over by the prime minister.
It is decided that necessary orders will be issued to all concerned to coordinate the movement of grains on a top-priority basis. Bangabandhu declares that a meeting will be held in Dhaka at the highest level in a day or two to consider the problems experienced by local officials regarding timely supply of agricultural inputs at the doorsteps of farmers.
AL'S RESISTANCE DAY PROGRAMME
A mammoth public meeting held today at the Paltan Maidan urges the political opponents to give up violence and maintain peace and order for smooth functioning of democracy in the country. Speakers at the meeting call upon the people not to be misled by the forces of disruption who are out to foil the hard-earned independence. The meeting is organised by the Dhaka City Unit of Bangladesh Awami League as part of the resistance day programme organised across the country.
PM'S DONATION TO CULTURAL ORGANISATION
Prime Minister Sheikh Mujibur Rahman today donates Tk 5,000 each to Nawabganj Art Council and Rajshahi Lalitkala Academy. Bangabandhu watches a gambhira performance, a traditional song with dance popular in the part of Rajshahi.
ONE LAKH TONNES OF WHEAT COMING THIS MONTH
The UN World Food Programme has purchased 100,000 tonnes of wheat worth $11.8 million on behalf of Bangladesh. The money, which covered shipping, is paid by the Bangladesh government. The wheat will be shipped at the end of this month.
