4-year-old 'raped' in Sunamganj

A four-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a man in Sreepur area of Sunamganj's Tahirpur upazila Tuesday evening.

The accused is Haris Mia, 50, a neighbour of the child.

The girl was going to one of her relative's house, a few yards away from her home, around 4:30pm. On her way, Haris allegedly picked her up and raped her in his house, police said, quoting locals.

Hearing her scream, locals rescued the girl and detained Haris in his house. The girl was immediately taken to Tahirpur Upazila Health Complex and later shifted to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital in critical condition, police added.

Police arrested Haris around 7:00pm from his home, where locals held him since the incident had happened.

Mamunur Rashid, medical officer at Sunamganj Sadar Hospital, said the girl was receiving treatment at the intensive care unit.

A case was filed with Tahirpur Police Station, said Nandan Kanti Dhar, officer-in-charge of the police station.
