Row Over Divorce: Man stabs sister-in-law to death, injures wife
A man stabbed his sister-in-law to death and critically injured his wife for sending him divorce papers in Chirirbandar upazila of Dinajpur yesterday afternoon.
Locals caught the alleged killer and handed him over to police.
The dead is Morjina Akter Munni, 26, wife of Aminul Rashid Bokul, an official of the settlement office in the upazila and a resident of Chiribandar Upazila Complex area.
She was the older sister of Rokshana Khatun, 18, an HSC student who is now battling for life at M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital in the district.
The attacker was identified as Rokhsana's husband Abdullah Shuvo, Harisul Islam, officer-in-charge of Chirirbandar Police Station, said, adding that the man, 30, hailed from Comilla. Police are interrogating him over the killing.
According to police, three men, including Shuvo, entered the house of the victims around 2:30pm and attacked Roksana with sharp weapons. When her elder sister Munni came to her rescue, the attacker also swooped on her, killing her on the spot.
Locals caught Shuvo when he was fleeing.
According to family members, Rokshana, a daughter of Mozidul Islam of Sahebjot village under Tentulia upazila of Panchagarh, met Shuvo on Facebook. They got married in November last year.
After the wedding, Shuvo took Roksana to his home in Comilla. On her arrival there, Rokshana discovered her husband was already married and was also a father of one child. She left her husband and returned to her sister's home in Chirirbandar upazila of Dinajpur.
Recently, she had sent divorce papers to Shuvo.
OC Harisul Islam said Shuvo did not want to accept the divorce and attacked her out of anger. Police are still looking for his two accomplices.
