Woman 'killed over dowry'

A housewife was allegedly murdered by her husband and in-laws for dowry at Mirzapur upazila on Tuesday night.

The deceased was identified as Rozy Akter, 30, wife of Mukchhed Ali of Pakulla Palpara village under Jamurki union.

Police recovered her body from the house yesterday morning and detained her husband Moksed, 35, and mother-in-law Hafiza Khatun, 55, for their alleged involvement with the killing.

Rozy's brother Razib Hossain of Bolotia village of adjacent Mohera union alleged that his brother-in-law Moksed had been torturing Rozy since their marriage demanding dowry from her. Moksed and his mother strangled Rozy after torturing her on Tuesday night, he alleged.

Razib also said that Moksed cheated their family when getting married to his sister because he had hidden the fact from them that he had been married twice before. Moksed is in the process of getting married a fourth time, Razib alleged.

Sub-Inspector Shafiqul Islam of Mirzapur Police Station said they have sent the body to the Tangail General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

The body bore marks of injuries on the throat and also bleeding from the ears, the sub-inspector said.
