Sussex congratulate Fizz on Test return

Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman may have only played two matches for Sussex County Cricket Club in last season's Natwest T20 Blast, but the effervescent youngster's effect seems to have been a lasting one.

In a Facebook post on their official page on Tuesday, Sussex CCC congratulated Mustafizur for being picked in the Bangladesh Test squad to tour Sri Lanka, the first time the youngster has made the Test squad since undergoing surgery for a shoulder injury that he coincidentally picked up during his stint with Sussex last summer.

A nod to our Bangladeshi supporters today with congratulations to former Sussex man Mustafizur Rahman on his recall to the Bangladesh Cricket : The Tigers Test squad for the upcoming series with Sri Lanka

There is good reason for Sussex to be so enamoured with Mustafizur, who went to the English club after a brilliant stint with reigning Indian Premier League champions Sunrisers Hyderabad. The legend of his mysterious cutters preceded his arrival, and he delivered on the first opportunity. He bagged four wickets for 23 runs for Sussex Sharks against Essex Eagles on July 22 last year, picking up a man-of-the-match award in his first match in the bargain.

That was followed by a low period in Mustafizur's young career, with shoulder surgery putting him out of action till late 2016 when he made a comeback in the New Zealand ODIs. He was still not comfortable and confident in his action, and did not feature in the Tests on the New Zealand tour. He also sat out Bangladesh's first Test in India earlier this month.

Fortunately for Bangladesh, after playing two rounds of domestic first-class cricket in the Bangladesh Cricket League Mustafizur is confident in his recovery and so has been named in the Bangladesh Test squad for the tour of Sri Lanka next month.
