Ashrayan-2 project: Nearly 40k families to get new houses tomorrow

Nearly 40,000 homeless and landless families are going to get new houses tomorrow, just around a month before Eid-ul-Fitr, under the Ashrayan-2 project.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will hand over houses to 39,365 people in three upazilas of Gazipur, Sylhet and Barishal districts tomorrow, according to a press release issued this morning by the Prime Minister's Office.
The PM will inaugurate the handover ceremony of the fourth phase of the project through a virtual ceremony from the Gono Bhaban.
She will virtually join the Nayapara project in Sreepur upazila in Gazipur, Nawagon project in Gowainghat upazila in Sylhet and Uttarpar shelter project in Banaripara in Barishal and talk to the beneficiaries.
The handover of the houses, along with the land, is part of the government's initiative to provide houses to all landless and homeless families on the occasion of "Mujib Year" as the prime minister promised that "no one will remain without a home in Bangladesh".
The beneficiaries will be given semi-permanent houses along with the land under the Ashrayan-2 project.
The houses have a kitchen, a toilet and a place for raising poultry and growing vegetables in the yard.
Earlier on January 23, 2021 the government had provided 63,999 houses in the first phase, and 53,330 houses on June 20, 2021 in the second phase under Ashrayan-2 project.
In the first stage of the third phase, 32, 904 houses were handed over on April 26 last year while 26,229 more were handed over in the second stage on July 21.
A total of 211 upazilas across the country including all upazilas of Madaripur, Gazipur, Narsingdi, Rajshahi, Joypurhat, Chapainawabganj and Chuadanga districts will not have any landless or homeless people following tomorrow's handover of houses, according to the press release issued by the PMO.
