Hundreds rush to Kamalapur Railway Station to claim ticket refunds
Hundreds of passengers rushed to Kamalapur Railway Station this morning to collect ticket refunds as Bangladesh Railway suspended all passenger trains from Dhaka to other parts of the country since midnight.
Commuters who bought tickets for today are being refunded. But those who bought advance tickers for travelling in the next five days have been told to come back on the day they were scheduled to travel.
Masud Sarwar, station manager of Kamalapur Railway Station, said commuters will have to collect the refunds on the day they were supposed to travel.
If they come before or after the scheduled date they cannot be refunded as the railway's software system has been set in that way, he said.
Md Alamgir bought a ticket of Teesta Express for traveling to Jamalpur from Dhaka tomorrow. He told The Daily Star in the morning that he went to the counter for refund but has been asked to come back tomorrow.
Passenger trains between other districts and cities would run as usual.
Dhaka has been virtually cut off from the rest of the country following the suspension of all inter-district transports -- road, rail and waterway.
