Narsingdi upazila chairman shot at home

The chairman of Narsingdi's Shibpur upazila, Harunur Rashid Khan, sustained injuries after being shot in his residence early today.
Shibpur Upazila Awami League General Secretary, Shamsul Alam Bhuiyan, said the incident took place around 6:00am when three people came to meet the 70-year-old chairman early in the morning.
After talking for a while, the miscreants shot the chairman twice when he was going to bring some food for them. CCTV footage showed that the miscreants fled on a motorcycle after the shooting.
Meanwhile, local Awami League leaders and activists blocked Shibpur college gate bus stand on Dhaka-Itakhola-Monohardi regional highway by setting fire to tyres to protest the incident, he said.
The incident caused huge traffic jams on both sides of the road, reports our local correspondent.
Narsingdi Civil Surgeon Md Nurul Islam said Harunur Rashid was brought to the Upazila Health Complex around 7:45am. There were two bullet marks on his back. He was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for advanced treatment.
Narsingdi Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime), Anirban Chowdhury, said efforts are on to identify those involved in the incident. An investigation into the incident is underway.
