Probe body submits report over torture at Islamic University

The probe body formed by the Islamic University (IU) authorities over the torture of a student in a residential hall in Kushtia submitted its report today.

The committee headed by Prof Reba Mandol submitted the report to the university's registrar in the morning, our local correspondent reports.

However, details of the report could not be known immediately.

According to the High Court directives, IU authorities will submit the report before the court.

The body was formed by the university authorities on February 15, after a non-resident student was beaten up by a group of students allegedly led by two BCL leaders.

The committee members during its investigation took depositions of 40 students, including the victim, two accused, two house tutors and four staff members.

On February 14, Phulpori Khatun, a first-year non-residential student of the university, alleged that its BCL Vice President Sanjida Chowdhury and activist Tabassum Islam, along with others, tortured her on the night of February 12 for staying at the university's Deshratna Sheikh Hasina Hall without their "permission".

Beside the university probe committee, two other bodies are carrying out investigations into the incident.
