Tk 5.78cr found in 8 donation boxes of Pagla Mosque

Twenty-three bags of money, amounting to over Tk 5.78 crore, were found in eight donation boxes of Kishoreganj's Pagla Mosque this morning.

Kishoreganj Additional Deputy Commissioner ATM Farhad Chowdhury confirmed the matter to our Mymensingh correspondent.

The donation boxes were opened this morning after three months in presence of Kishoreganj Deputy Commissioner Mohamamd Abul Kalam Azad, also the president of the mosque committee, he said.

The counting began at 8:00am and ended around 9:00pm, said ATM Farhad Chowdhury, adding that after the counting, they found a record Tk 5,78,09,325, foreign currency, and gold ornaments in the 23 bags.

On May 6 this year, the donation boxes were opened after four months where a record Tk 5,59,07,689, foreign currency, and gold ornaments were found in 19 bags.

Additional District Magistrate Kazi Mahua Momtaz; Senior Assistant Commissioners Sheikh Jaber Ahmed and Sirajul Islam; Assistant Commissioners Nabila Ferdous and Sadia Afrin Tareen; Pesh Imam of the mosque Mufti Khalilur Rahman; and Rupali Bank Assistant General Manager Rafiqul Islam have taken part in the counting today.

Historical Pagla Mosque is located on the banks of the Narsunda river in Kishoreganj town.

The money received from the donation boxes of the mosque is spent on various mosques, madrasas and orphanages in the district, as well as in various social welfare activities.

An initiative has been taken to build an international standard Islamic Complex in the Pagla Mosque and its construction cost has initially been estimated at Tk 115 crore. Around 60,000 people will be able to pray together at the Islamic Complex, according to the sources at the mosque.
