HC issues rule for recovering stolen BB money
The High Court today issued a rule asking the government to explain in four weeks as to why it should not be directed to take necessary steps to recover the money stolen from Bangladesh Bank.
A High Court bench of Justice Zinat Ara and Justice AKM Zahirul Hoque came up with the rule following a writ petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer Eunus Ali Akond.
Foreign secretary, home secretary, finance secretary, governor of the Bangladesh Bank and its former governor Atiur Rahman have been made respondents to the rule.
Eunus filed the petition on March 22 with the HC seeking its directives to recover the stolen money from the bank – US$ 101 million that hackers stole out of the central bank's account with Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
