Commerce ministry asks e-orange to give info about its assets, liabilities by 7 days

The commerce ministry today issued a show cause notice to e-orange asking them to provide information about the amount of assets and liabilities of the e-commerce company within seven days.

The notice was issued by the Central Digital Commerce Cell of the ministry following allegations of consumers' harassment against the company.

In the notice, the cell asked the platform to inform about the number of its customers and business model, Rahman told The Daily Star.

If they cannot reply within the stipulated time, legal actions may be required to be taken against them, he said.

The notice said through the complaints of some customers and various newspapers and electronic media, it has come to light that the online business platform has not delivered the products to the customers on time taking huge amounts of money from the customers in advance.

This seems to be a clear violation of the "Digital Commerce Management Guideline 2021", "Consumer Rights Protection Act 2009" and "Penal Code-160", he said.

The notice asked to provide information about the number of customers who have not received the product despite making payment till July 31 and how much money was taken in advance from the customers by this time.
