IDRA gets four new members
The government has appointed four new members to the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA) for the next three years.
Tanjina Ismail, former senior district and sessions judge, was appointed as member for law, and Apel Mahmud, chief executive officer of Fareast Islami Life Insurance, was appointed as member for life insurance, according to a finance ministry circular issued today.
Additionally, Mohammad Abu Bakar Siddique, former chief executive officer of Meghna Insurance, was appointed as member for non-life insurance and Md Fazlul Haque, a former additional secretary of the government, was appointed as member for administration.
Each of them was appointed on a contractual basis for the next three years from the date of joining on condition of renouncing work and relations with all other institutions and organisations, the ministry circular mentioned.
The move comes after four individuals resigned from their posts at the IDRA on November 7. They are Quamrul Hasan, a member of the life insurance department, Md Nazrul Islam, a member of the non-life insurance department, Md Dalil Uddin, a member of the law department, and Biswajit Bhattacharya Khokon, a member of the administration department.
On August 11 this year, the interim government decided to cancel all contractual appointments made by the previous administration in phases.
