Workers rally in Gazipur over unpaid wages, bonuses

Workers of TNZ Group protested in front of the TNZ Basic Clothing Ltd factory in Balur Math in Gazipur over arrears today.

Hundreds of workers joined the rally, which began at 4:00pm, demanding payment of overdue wages, accrued leave benefits, and Eid bonuses.

Shahajadi, a swing operator at the factory, voicing the workers' demands, said, "We want the payment of our overdue wages, the accrued leave money of the past two years, and the Eid-ul-Fitr bonuses."

Mohammad Wahiduzzaman, assistant superintendent of Gazipur Industrial Police, told The Daily Star that the workers were protesting over longstanding issues.

"The management has not cleared the workers' dues. A partial payment of Tk 3 crore was made before Eid after a meeting with the labour secretary, allowing workers to return home temporarily. However, wages for February, March, and the bonuses remain unpaid," he added.

He further informed that a meeting is scheduled for tomorrow at the Ministry of Labour, chaired by its secretary. Representatives from the owners, workers, and BGMEA are expected to attend.
